Compliance Training

The CIAs (Corporate Integrity Agreements) require that companies provide compliance training to all its employees. The CIAs provides not only a list of trainings that should be taken by the employees of specific organizations, but also the number of training hours that must be completed by the employees. One of the major requirements of the CIAs, is that new employees should be trained within 30 days from the date of joining. Usually organizations find it difficult to meet the need of annually training thousand’s of globally placed employees on Compliance training; also tracking 100% training completion is burdensome. In such case, which is an effective method for delivering training on-the-job or online training? There are different forms of online trainings available, such as web-based training, CD based training, mobile learning, and blended learning etc. To meet the requirement of getting employees trained on compliance globally, within 30 days of their joining, eLearning can be a solution.

Here are a few reasons why most of the organizations prefer elearning for compliance training.

Saves Time and Cost: Most of the time, trainings are delayed for new employees, whereas the requirement is to train them within a stipulated time. The reason behind it could be non-availability of resources to train them, or covering the trainings for employees spread across the globe takes time. Then in such a case, eLearning courses are a better solution, as they save the time that would be lost in delays, or in training annually and the cost involved in rolling out the training globally is reduced too.

Convertible to Multiple Languages: It is easy to translate eLearning into multiple languages and this would help in meeting the need of employees across the globe. Translating courses into multiple languages, overcomes the cross cultural issues.

Interactive and Engaging: The elearning trainings can be designed to be interactive, which stimulates the learner’s minds and gets them involved. Effective strategies such as scenarios and videos can be used to keep the learners engaged. The scenarios can be drawn from complaints or audit results, making the training more connected with ground reality.

100% Completion Tracking: The tracking of 100% completion of training is easy; in this case Learning Management System plays a key role. It can monitor and track the trainings on an annual basis and generate training reports, which are useful in fulfilling CIA requirement.

Byte-sized Delivery: There are a huge number of policies, procedures, laws and regulations being covered in the compliance training, which require an ample amount of time and effort from the learners, to go through it. Having one huge eLearning course to go through, would look burdensome to employees. Then in such case, the eLearning can be delivered into byte-sized modules. These byte-sized modules can be developed based on subject areas and training objectives.

Proper Assignment to Groups: There are different target groups of employees that need to take the trainings on the annual basis, on specified subject areas. For example, as per CIAs the employees are categorized into ‘covered persons’, ‘relevant covered persons’, which include contractors or vendors ,who also need to comply with the requirements. In such case the same compliance program being delivered to all these groups would not serve the purpose. It is important that trainings, as per subject areas, be assigned to groups, which can be done easily here. In eLearning you can separate courses as per the groups and assign them accordingly.

Which are the other reasons you think that can be considered for delivering compliance online especially through eLearning? Do share your thoughts in the comments section.
